For encrypted calls - do I need to have Gold Lock installed on both phones?

Yes. End-to-end encryption is the only way to enable complete security (this can not be ensured when only one side is encrypted). Gold Lock is an end-to-end security system, so the encryption software must be installed on both sides of the call.

What is the difference between Gold Lock 4.01 and Gold Lock 5.01?

Gold Lock 5.01 was released a few years after version 4.01. As a result, and considering newer models on the market at the time, version 5.01 features higher encryption key sizes, better audio quality, and support for newer Nokia models.

The main differences between Gold Lock 5.01 and Gold Lock Enterprise are in supported devices, and supported networks.

Do I need a VOIP provider when using Gold Lock Enterprise?

No. Gold Lock Enterprise implements its own encrypted VOIP channel, without relying on any 3rd party provider. There are only two requirements for establishing an encrypted call between two devices (nationally or internationally):
  • Both sides of the call should have Gold Lock Enterprise installed
  • Both sides of the call should be connected to the internet (via WI-FI, 3G, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, or CDMA)
